Water Street Vision

Water Street, in Harrisonburg, is a busy street of restaurants, markets, bakery, retail stores and parking. It is crossed by a well-used pedestrian passage from Court Square past shops and the Water Street Parking Deck going south to the Farmers Market. The intersection of Water Street and the pedestrian passage is now dominated by busy vehicular traffic and delivery trucks. Our vision is to give the intersection an arresting visual presence so that, without signs, drivers and walkers both will give precedence to the pedestrian passage. We propose to delineate the one lane street clearly and punch up the visibility of the circle of interaction so pedestrians will naturally dominate this busy intersection.
