House in the Treetops

House in the Treetops

The House in the Treetops is positioned for a life high among the trees. Construction at this site will require removal of only 3 trees. Parking is located at the top of the lot, beside the road. The house is approached over a pedestrian bridge threaded through the trees.

The open Day Room is on the third floor, high among the upper branches of the trees where the bridge enters. The glass wall across the south side and returning on the east and west sides gives this house the feeling of living with the birds and squirrels . A cantilevered deck brings the occupants even closer to nature. The second floor holds the Master Bedroom and Gym. The floor below holds two more bedrooms, just above the sloping grade of the woods.

A house in a deciduous forest has a natural passive solar system, providing cooling shade in summer and warming sun in winter. The low winter sun will penetrate through the trees with their bare branches. In summer, with the trees in full leaf, the house will be continuously shaded and cooled.
